This video brings to light some of the failed attempts at translating English and putting it on some of the public signs in China. It shows exactly why you can't always use a direct translator because the literal translation can mean something very different in another language. I won't give any spoilers, but some of the mistakes are hilarious.
Nice one, Scott! I thought "hand grenade" and "manicure set" were funny. Or Feman, or Gentlemen with the dress. It seems like things would be so confusing in China. I wonder why they have so many translation on everything as well.!
ReplyDeleteAlso "I you get stolen- call the police" that was funny too.
Thanks!
Scott, that video had me cracking up! I never knew "Chinglish" was a thing. I guess it shows that things don't literally translate into what you want it to say in another language. Hopefully people didn't follow some of those crazy signs like the manicure set..that set would probably destroy their toe nails!!
ReplyDeleteIf I could choose one word to describe this video, it would be funny. I thought the one about the "chicken that was rude and unreasonable" on the menu was hilarious. I have to agree with Kimberly about the "if you get stolen- call the police". I enjoyed watching this video. Thanks Scott!
ReplyDeleteI have to say that watching this video was hilarious. I think if I was stuck in china and I saw some of those phrases I would think I am in some sort of parallel universe.
